Alan Angelo Sr. of New Jersey lied to get into the army. He said he was single and had no children when in fact he was a married father. He enlisted in the army in 1918 as a private (1181570) in the ASNA 12th Photographic section. He sailed on August 8th, 1918 on the Emperor of Russia steamer for France. While in France he took numerous photos for publication which were widely circulated. These photos and others were included in the album presented below. While in France he was promoted to the rank of  Corporal with the 2nd Photographic section. He returned from France on April 7 1919  on either the Graf Waldemar or the Konigin of Niederalanden.
