Trucks with Horseshoes
This is a very specific and narrow topic but it's one that I find fascinating. From time to time, you will find images of German vehicles (usually trucks) with a horseshoe, typically on the front grille. These horseshoes are invariably mounted with the shoe pointed downward or at about a 45-degree angle. In American culture, the upside-down horseshoe is seen as unlucky. In Germany, at least during WWII, this orientation was considered the luckiest. I have included some additional images, not from trucks, that demonstrate this. I have even included a British tank image showing the same thing.
These photographs and information were taken from a number of online sources and auction sites. They are presented here for educational purposes.
